Holy Moly, I think I have found a custard that is consistently better than Culvers. I have gotten food from here once also and it was all excellent. Prices are circa 1992 as well.

I was going to give them a 3.5 but the system wouldn't allow me to. The custard is great, the food is mediocre, and the service varies. I had terrible service on my first visit, yet because the custard was amazing for all three of of us in my family, I decided to give them another chance. I have since been about 10 times and have had bad service on 3 of those occasions and it seems to be the same employees too. The custard was still fantastic on all of the visits and the food, which I've had twice is average. If the service matched the custard, they'd for sure get 5 stars from me.

Pop's is located in a strip mall, so no vintage drive-in here, although they do have some sidewalk seating. Our experience inside was chaotic. It was noisy. Maybe it was the custard machine or something, but there was some sort of pounding going on most of the time we were there. It was fairly busy, and at first there was no place inside to sit, but after 10 minutes or so we scored a booth. The restaurant is small and there are only a few feet between you and the counter, and if you aren't familiar with the menu drill I don't think it's easy to pick up. There are menu boards on the wall below the ceiling, but it was a good 15 minutes later (after we ordered and paid) before I saw all of the extra signs taped along the front of the counter advertising other goodies, and also the custard flavors available. I cringed when well after I ordered I saw a sign taped to the counter that said you could have a Solly's burger for an upcharge, but I was able to see that they had malts while I was at the counter, so with my cheeseburger order, for which I was asked about toppings (grilled onions, mustard and pickles, please) after I saw that they had malts, I figured a chocolate malt would be a staple, so I asked for that. The decor was somewhat Victorian aunt's house to me, olde tymey kitchen gadgets and cutesy stuff, and the dining area was tidy. It wasn't too long before our food was ready. The burger was tasty enough, although for whatever reason I found myself wishing I had went with raw onions rather than the grilled, which was an option. We were sharing an order of cheese fries, and while I felt the fries themselves were rather unextraordinary, the cheese sauce, however, was not! It was thick and dark yellow, and tasted very cheddary rather than nacho-y or cheese whizzy. If I find myself in Menomonee Falls again and hungry, I would be up for an order of these cheese fries again. The chocolate malt was also quite nice. Prices were reasonable and service was friendly.

First, Pop's is NOT frozen custard - while they have very good ice cream, it is by no means equal to Culvers or Kopp's frozen custard. Unfortunately they held themselves out as purveyors of frozen custard and we were let down :( However the grasshopper sundae was quite good.

Hands down the best custard I've ever had! Instead of heading to my normal go-to places for custard while in Wisconsin, my cousin took me to this hole in the wall and it did not disappoint! I got a flavor of the day cone (mint silk) and my cousin got an Oreo cream cone...my treat because we brought three others, and I think the total for all five cones was around $12! I would have given it 5 stars, but the place was so small there wasn't enough room for people to sit down and eat...otherwise, this place is amazing!

Update, bringing it up a notch, Same song but different verse, my fiance wanted dessert and we were in the area and stopped, this time i got a strawberry shake and she got a hot fudge sundae, yet again she really enjoyed the sundae and i LOVED my shake, which is saying something since i'm not a very big ice cream/custard guy.

I see the discrete (not discreet) merits of Pop's, especially since it serves the good people of Menomonee Falls. p.s. the way to remember how to spell "Menomonee" is to say, "me no monee foh this wonderful custahd", in an Asian accent, and then trick people into buying custard for you. No, you're stupid. Location: 3 out of 5 Not somewhere I would drive to from Milwaukee proper just to get my custard and burger fix, but since I was half coerced into doing some type of Aquathon out at Memonomee Park in late August, Pop's wasn't too far away. It's in the same parking complex as a diving shop, a bar, and maybe another restaurant, so parking is free and ample. They have a cute outdoor seating area as well. Decor/Ambiance: 3.5 out of 5 America, woo hoo! I like the patriotic theme that they had going on during our visit. You know those little spinning decorations that move with the air circulation that you can hang from the ceiling? Yep, they had those. The interior itself is comprised of not so comfortable wooden seats and laquered tables/benches - for those of you with flat booties it may be beneficial to bring along some type of seat cushion if you're going to be there for awhile. (I live for the) ApplauseX2 for the small collection of reading materials and children's toys in the front corner, almost library style. Customer Service: 3.75 out of 5 For being towards the end of the night (I rolled in at around 8:45), all of the workers seemed to be in pretty decent spirits. The gals working the cash registers were friendly in taking our orders, and were polite when asking if I needed extra condiments for my burger. They weren't as in a rush as say, the people that work at any of the Kopp's locations, so I didn't feel like they were trying to herd me in and out ASAP. I'm not such a stickler when it comes to "dirty" looking clothes; working in a custard shop, you have to expect to get some splashback/grease/toppings on you once in awhile, and black shirts tend to hide that well. Selection of Grill Menu Items: 4.5 out of 5 A vast selection when you compare them to a place like Gille's or Kopp's. Sure, they had what you might expect: burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwich, fish sandwich, fries, o-rings, cheese curds, etc. What they do offer that sets them apart are quasi specialty sandwiches: a giant grilled cheese, pulled pork, pizza burger, pork chop, etc. Taste/Quality of Butter Burger + Cheese and Bacon: 3 out of 5 Ever so slightly below what I have come to expect given my experiences at Kopp's. This is not a knock or an insult, and perhaps my view is based on the fact that I'm a pretty standard person when it comes to ordering: My "go to" is a bacon cheeseburger with whatever toppings are free (expect to pay a bit for lettuce and tomato here, but onions are free), and I opted for the butter burger on the night of my visit. The meat itself wasn't overly greasy, which can be good or bad depending on what your lifestyle is. For example, those familiar with Portillo's will attest that the meat there is VERY "flavorful". The bacon, while tasty, was nothing special. With the way they cut up the strips into halves, it reminded me of what I might find at Burger King. The one thing I remember the most as being a little off was the bread to meat ratio of my burger. While I have no complaints about the size of the meat patty, the size of the bun was slightly overwhelming. However, I imagine that on the double burger, it'd be perfect. Six up, half a dozen down, right? The butter part of the burger was nicely done - the top half of my bun wasn't saturated or swimming in tasty fat, but it was obvious that well, there was butter. Taste/Quality of "plain" Vanilla Custard: 4.5 out of 5 Yeeeeeeeboy, that's some tasty custard. My theory on custard is pretty simple - if they can make the base right (either chocolate or vanilla), they can make any variants well. And this folks - was very very good custard. In my opinion, and mine only - probably a little better than Kopp's. Creamy, rich, sweet, cold (but not brain freeze cold), decadent. All of the above. Value: 4 out of 5 If you happen to have no money (remember, "Me no monee"), you won't be eating here. But, if you have a little bit of cash (and they take credit too, even though the sign on the wall says "We accept cash"), you can eat pretty well. Expect to pay around 10$ a person, which if you do it right, can get you "one scoop" (it's really like 2.5 scoops) of custard, a burger, and probably some fries too. Overall: 4 out of 5 Cute place, delicious custard, extensive menu. Will return if I'm in the area.

Ah, Pops! You hold such a dear, nostalgic place in my heart. I have so many fond childhood memories with you... all of them equally delicious! Since my sissy and I were nothing but a little pony-tail wearing, uniform-sporting, backpack-toting tikes from St. Anthony's in Menomonee Falls (right down the street), our wonderful Dad used to take us here for almost every celebratory occasion no matter how big or small. Stellar report card? "Let's stop by pops for some ginormous scoops of cookies n' cream custard!" Big win at our basketball game? "Let's run to Pop's for a buttery, greasy burger filled with gluttony goodness." I think that was secretly his way of being the best dad in the world while simultaneously making a discrete excuse to head to this neighborhood gem for some ridiculously tasty treats and eats for himself. As we got older, it was also a cool spot to hang out with friends before getting into whatever it was that we did at that age. I hardly get back to Pop's as often as I would like, but after growing up in the Milwaukee-area, I can assure you that you're missing out if you're in a 30-mile radius and have yet to experience this neighborhood gem. Pop's forever has a place is my heart... and a space in my belly!

This is a nostalgic little place that has been around forever. I have eaten here many, many times and have never had a bad experience. I love their jumbo butterburgers (best in the area) and their "Kiss on the Roof' sundae (peanut butter sauce, hot fudge & peanuts)...Mmmm it's my favortie sundae ever! The staff is always very friendly & they make everything fresh to order. This is a great place to come to in the summer as you can walk up and order from an outdoor window. Also great for take-out or dining in!

A limerick: There once was a place called "Pop's," T'was better than all custard shops. To my folks' house it is near, To my heart, it's quite dear, Only comparable maybe, is Kopp's. --- A haiku: Custard to die for So so much kitsch but it's real Turkey sub for life --- Another haiku: Black cow on the real Burgers and chicken tenders Oh how I love you

My dad's been heading to their place for years, I never understood why. He brought me in and mother of god these fries are glorious. I'm a fitness freak, but these fries are irresistible.

We visited Pop's again for dinner. My burger and fries were wonderful! I also had a mint brownie custard cone for dessert. The restaurant was clean and cozy as usual. My only (very small) suggestion would be for the cashiers/servers to have matching & clean shirts. Everyone looked a little "grubby" this visit.

From the day I worked here as a 15 year-old, to the day nearly 15 years later, Pops has always had great food which continues to dizzyingly diversify. Old favorites (strawberry schaum tortes, chili cheese fries) remain delicious and "new" ideas (fried pickles, Asian chicken salad) are just as tasty. Sharon Whitman, the battle axe owner and operator of the custard stand, still weaves herself in and out of the grill station, sundae assembly, and chatting with her customers in the dining room. The whole place is a treat.

Oh man. While I admit I haven't been here (yet), after just one take-out lunch order with my team at work, it is clear Pop's rocks. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious, and I'm sure we'll be back!

Good place for a burger and root beer float. I don't have any other real reference for frozen custard stands though except for Kopp's. I'm still foggy on what frozen custard is. I liked it, but I didn't like it as much as standard ice cream.

Old fashioned type custard shop with a grill. Better be hungry and not worry about your cholesterol counts when you stop in. Excellent home-made custard that you can also buy in pints. I almost said ice cream - there is a difference between ice cream and custard and if your live in the Milwaukee area you know there is a fierce battle between the custard shops - they are one of the best. Grill has the usual burgers and fries as well as slighty different grilled sandwiches. Is a smaller shop with limited seating but has a larger outdoor seating area that is popular in the summer.

The directions are wrong on Yelp as noted in the quick tip. But it's still easy to find on Appleton Avenue in Menomonee Falls. Went on a Saturday later in the afternoon. It was busy but not crazy. Able to snag a booth for us and the kids without a problem. Asked for menu at counter to avoid creating a roadblock while kids made their decisions. Order at the counter and wait for your name to be called. Go pick up your tray and enjoy. They have a variety of food. The single butterburger is small, but tasty. Advise going for the double if you are hungry or have a soon to be teenage boy to feed. Upgrade to a combo for the fry and drink but be warned the small drinks are small. Fries were hot and crispy. Burgers had good flavor. Also tried a standard chocolate shake. It was thick and custardy. If you're a custard lover, it's a good shake for you. It paired well with the fries. We also tried the jumbo Chicago dog. Appreciated the sport peppers on the side. It was a large dog. Neon green relish, raw white onions, pickle spear and tomato slice and yellow mustard. Only thing missing was the celery salt and poppy seed bun. But it was still good. No, it didn't need ketchup. A Chicago dog shouldn't need or have ketchup. Period. They also had a good variety of custard flavor choices for the day. Standard chocolate and vanilla along with pistachio, cookies and cream, berry peach, Sprecher root beer float. Surprisingly the peach berry was very good. It didn't have any of the fake cloying sweet peachy flavor to it. The Sprecher root beer float was also good. Skip the pistachio, it had very little flavor to it and was topped with peanuts. The cake cones have very narrow bases with the pre-glued on paper. There are also sugar and waffle cones to choose from. They have a variety of specialty sundaes or you can create your own. Their fountain drinks offer a decent variety-malts, shakes, floats, custard soda, black cow-and are made to order. The employees are very nice and it was clean inside. There is a lot of outside seating if the inside is crowded. They also have games at some of the inside tables to play which helps pass the time. We don't mind having to wait for food when they turn out pretty decent burgers, fries and shakes. It's a good place to take the kids. There's a lot of variety to the menu. We'll definitely go back the next time we are in the Menomonee Falls area.
